Mudakkathan Keera dosa

Mudakkathan keera or less known as the balloon plant is one of the greens that we have never heard of in recent times. It has heart shaped small balloons which when strike on hard surfaces burst with a light sound. This medicinal plant act against arthritis, inflammations, constipation and abdominal discomfort. It's not everyday we get to see such new plants, so what are you waiting for??

Kuthiraivali with Mudakkathan Keera dosa

Ingredients (serves for 2 to 3 members)
Mudakkathan Keera - 2 handful

Kuthiraivali rice - 1 cup (If not available raw rice can be used)
Boiled Rice - 1 cup (Idly rice or pulungal rice)
Red chillies - 6 numbers (without seeds)
Pepper unground - 1 tsp
Jeera - 1 tsp
Asafoetida powder - 1 tsp
Salt to taste

Method of preparation

Soak the Kuthiraivali rice and boiled rice for 2 to 3 hours.

Mix the cleaned mudakkathan keera, red chillies, pepper, jeera, asafoetida powder and salt (put little salt while grinding - can be added if needed while making dosa) with the soaked rice items and grind the mixture using the drained water of rice (if not enough use fresh water). Grind to smooth paste.

(To avoid bitter taste dosa, grind half of the items first - taste the bitterness of the dough and add or remove the keera accordingly during second half grinding.)

Now the dough is ready to make dosa. Before making dosa check if the salt is correct in dough.

The dosa is to be poured and spread like rava dosa style. After pouring, close the tava with a lid for at least 3 minutes before turning over.

Side dish preferable
Honey for children
Sambar or Coconut chutney for all age group

Variation

Curry leaves can also be used instead of keerai.
If Kuthiraivali rice is not available Samai rice or raw rice can also be used.

Health benefits
